Janna Graham

Composer and Multi-Instrumentalist

Janna Graham is a composer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Atlanta, Georgia. She recently graduated with a Master's degree in Composition with distinction from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Before grad school, Janna earned a B.M. in Jazz Performance from Kennesaw State University, then spent eight years living and working in New York City. During this period, she performed as a percussionist for the 2019 Broadway revival of West Side Story and subbed for the world premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s final show, Here We Are. Her time in the city also included playing in off-Broadway productions like Sweet Charity (starring Sutton Foster), Merrily We Roll Along, and Cyrano (starring Peter Dinklage), as well as subbing for Broadway productions such as Six, Tina, and The Prom.

Today, Janna’s work spans chamber music, orchestral music, pop, electronic, and musical theater. She is currently developing a new musical titled Good Thinkin’ with collaborator Avery Rabbitt and recording an album with her band, sky frog. She can also be seen on screen as a musician and actor in the 2024 Mean Girls movie.

Janna is endorsed by Pearl/Adams Percussion and Sabian Cymbals. Her dad and brother are both incredible musicians. Check out their websites: www.JezGraham.com and www.BillGrahamMusic.com.

Inspired by the Pembrokeshire Coast, airwaves explores three contrasting scenes in three movements.

"wave prayer" uses modal harmony and a gradual metric shift to evoke the rhythm of water.

"puffin hypothesis" contrasts the puffin's awkward waddle (percussive key clicks, staccato fragments) with its surprising grace in flight (chromatic harmonies, intricate counterpoint).

"symmetry prism" employs minimalist techniques—interlocking rhythmic patterns and a soaring alto solo—to capture the energy of standing at the edge of a cliff.
